Hay, there!
An elderly farmer was finishing his haymaking one Sunday afternoon when his pastor drove by. “I noticed you weren’t in church this morning,” said the pastor. “Don’t you know that the Creator made the world in six days and then rested on the seventh?” “Yes,” replied the farmer, as he looked uneasily at the rain clouds gathering in the sky. “I know all about that. But he got done and I didn’t.” Starting in September the women will be studying Luke’s Gospel for the poor. There will be a workshop at the Alvin Presbyterian Church, 302 South Johnson, August 2nd from 9AM-1PM. Lunch will be served and a love offering will be taken to help with the meal. This workshop helps us to know what to expect as we study Luke. Reservations need to be in by July 28th. Let’s plan the Secret Pal Party for August 31st. If this is not a good day, please let me know. We always start at 4 and are usually are through by 5:30PM. School starts August 25th. Most people are through with summer vacations. On July 8th a dear friend and former member of GPPC passed from this earth to his Heavenly Home. Ed Murray Brannan age 80 years was in this church for many years, serving as an elder, Sunday school teacher and faithful member. I have known Ed for over 50 years and he and Joyce were near the anniversary of 60 years of marriage. Our deepest sympathy goes to Joyce, their children, in law children and grand children. Jimmy Smith spent nearly two weeks in the hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery. Dicky Coulter is in much pain with his back and legs. He’s had several tests and we hope he is getting better each day. I hear there were 75 church members and friends at the Mo Ranch July 10-13. I hear a good time was had by all. Our Prayers are with the group that has gone on the Mission trip to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. There are four adults and nine young people, We hope this will be a great experience for all. Catherine Henry
Dear Gulf Prairie Friends,
We want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful retirement party you gave us. You blessed us with so many cards and gifts, and you found so many different ways to help us remember our eleven very special years among you. Because I am no longer your pastor is no reason to let our friendships die out, so please keep in touch Send an e-mail or a note from time to time and tell us about your family and let us remember your special prayer needs. We love you all and give thanks to God for the ministry we had among you. Love in Christ, Bryan & Linda Fellowship News On July 29,2008 The Fellowship Hall was transformed to an “Aloha Island”. We had a full house, the food was great and everyone enjoyed the event. We all had an opportunity to tell Bryan how much we appreciated his years of service at Gulf Prairie. He was presented a Bible from the Session by Kevin, and a plaque from the Ministerial Alliance by Brother Brent Pittman. Diann and Amanda gave Bryan a book of reminiscences and photos. Everyone joined the church choir in singing “Aloha Bryan, Aloha Linda, it’s with our love that we send ya”! We miss you! Aloha! Mo Ranchers enjoyed their days and nights of fun, fellowship, food and praise. Stacey did a great job again this year organizing and planning. Scotta kept the kitchen running smoothly. My friend Louise taught us how to make a cross from beads. The card and domino players enjoyed some great games, and the bear puzzle was a challenge! David and Cindy did a wonderful job of praise and worship at the cross on Saturday. God has vlest us all and we should pass these blessings on to others. Family Game Night Saturday August 9th at 6:30 in the fellowship hall. Bring family and friends, a game, some snacks to share and enjoy fellowship fun and food. Family luncheon will be Sunday August 17th in fellowship hall. A box has been placed in Fellowship Hall for you to place school supplies to help out area needy children.
Yours in Christ Barbara Lettiere

’Twas the day after Bible school
’Twas the day after Bible school and all over town, With a sigh of relief, we all settled down. Out to the golf course goes Dad in his cap, And home in the bedroom Mom’s taking a nap. Gone Linda, gone Brenda, gone David and Johnny, Gone Margie, and Mary, and Ronnie and Donnie. Gone stories, and puppets, and songs in the air, Gone paint under fingernails and paste in the hair. Rest sweetly, dear workers, and wake with good cheer, For Bible school won’t come again for a year. As they drifted off, I heard them exclaim: “It was worth all the hard work and we’d do it again!”

PASTORAL CARE MINISTRY TEAM REPORT: AUGUST, 2008
Thank you to all those who participated in our recent Blood Drive, held on Saturday, July 5, 2008. Our goal was eighteen. Twenty-two people presented; six were deferred. We collected a total of fifteen units of blood: fourteen whole units and one double blood. There were two new donors. Consequently we helped save the lives of 45 people-- three lives/one unit of blood. Many thanks to Betty who telephoned our previous donors to ask them to commit while I was in Northern Ireland for Tom's mum's funeral. Thanks to Diann also for keeping the congregation apprised of our different blood dates in the Bulletin on a weekly basis.
Our next Blood Drive will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon in the Fellowship Hall. Please remember that if you donate twice during these summer months from June 1- September 30, you will be eligible to receive a $20.00 Target Gift Card on-line.
The prayer chain remained active-- during the first part of the month in particular. The middle of the month saw three more prayer requests undertaken by our telephone callers: prayers for Woody Joe, Cole Crisp, and Michael Blume.
Jimmy Smith was released from the hospital on Wednesday, July 15. Thank you to all those, particularly Irene, Sue, Betty, Kevin, and Tommy, who helped unite the congregation behind the Smith Family to offer them our support. Your presence and prayers were deeply appreciated and will continue to be appreciated while Jimmy seeks to recover. Many thanks too to Reverend Allan Trafford for his very fast and prayerful response to Jimmy's plight. Reverend Trafford has a large church of his own to serve and has very kindly taken us under his wing while we are "sans" pastor.
Thelma Warny is now in Room 201 at the Plantation Care Nursing Home and would welcome a visit from members of her church family.
Ruth Surovec is living with her son Bob in Edmond, OK. She is still troubled by a cough and will see a respiratory specialist next week in Oklahoma City. Ruth's new address is:
Ruth Surovec 1409 NW 148 Edmond, OK 73013 1-405-755-3638
We continue to lift up the Audas Family in prayer. Jean joined our church family again this year at Mo. What a special memory for Madeline and her! Jean suffered a slight setback last week but is back home from B'port Regional and, by all accounts, doing well.
And speaking of Mo, a great big "Thank You!" to the Fellowship Ministry Team and Barbara, Scotta and Stacey for yet another wonderful Mo Ranch experience! My "Men" had a blast!-- sliding, swinging, tubing, praising (David and Cindy), eating, and "Farkeling". Except for the Rogue Cedar that waylaid my van, I too had an awesome time. (Thanks for including us at the last minute.)
The Third Quarterly Meeting of the Pastoral Care Ministry Team will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Adult Sunday School Room. All team members and others interested in "shepherding" are invited to attend.
During this time of transition, please keep our church in your prayers.
"The Sheep Are Hanging in there, Good Shepherd!
